Saved or nah?

…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9‭-‬10 NKJV

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:19-20 NKJV

My husband and I were offered free tickets to the Pacers game recently. If you know us, you know that we are huge sports fans. We don’t get to attend or watch as many games as we used to,  but whenever life slows down, we hop on the opportunity. Except this last time. This last time we had to decline. I honestly wasn’t feeling it. Mainly because the seats were up high (in the balcony section). I did try to get a reservation at the restaurant in the stadium for a better view but it was too late. I just didn’t want to go because I knew I would have a better view at home. I have honestly started to think like that at most events these days: sporting events, concerts and even church. If I’m giving up my time and money, I want to have good seats!

You know where else I want to have good seats? Heaven! I need to be in the mix with people like Abraham and Paul and Mary. I want a front row seat with King Jesus! The key verse above says if I believe, I will be saved and consequently can get into heaven. Is that it though? Just believe. What does it mean to believe? What does it really means to be saved??

God also says, in the second verse above that even the devil believes, so faith without works is dead! He told the disciples, “If you love me, keep my commandments!” (John 14:15) So then, I will argue that there is some action involved. It’s not enough to say we believe. Faith. Belief. Holiness. Sanctified. These words require action. Action of living according to the instructions and principles outlined in the Bible. If we say we are believers, we should act a certain way, correct? If we say we are believers, we should try to avoid sin, correct? If we say we are believers,  we should make sure our witness isn’t contradicted by our walk.

We have to get to the point of being truly saved! Not saved in the way society tells us: by wearing long skirts, turning off rap music, quoting bible verses, volunteering our time. Not the type of saved where we claim to believe God, yet we continue to operate in self, doing whatever we want. But the type of saved where we believe God and as a result, we follow His instructions!

Our actions should show without a doubt that we are saved, sanctified (set apart) and holy. If not, how can we truly say we love God? Isn’t that a contradiction, to claim one thing but live another? Is it blasphemous? Let’s be really saved so we get good seats in heaven!

Live saved. Be holy. Be set apart. Don’t be a contradiction.
